Bielsa delivers mixed Leeds fitness news after 0-0 v Sheffield Weds
Leeds manager Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Barry Douglas has picked up a new injury, which is why he missed the game against Sheffield Wednesday.
Talking in his post-match press conference after the 1-1 draw, Bielsa said that he was suffering from a knee problem but added that it wasn’t serious.
There was better news about Leeds’ creative wizard, Pablo Hernandez, who has now missed the last six games.
Bielsa said that he was close to full fitness and could return as soon as the game against QPR on Saturday.
Given the time he’s been out and that today’s Under-23s game will likely come too soon for him, we imagine Hernandez will only make the bench on Saturday, but even his presence there will give the side a boost.
Bielsa was quoted by Athletic journalist Phil Hay in a post-match Q&A.
There was no update on Adam Forshaw, another key player that Leeds are missing at the moment.
He’s missed seven of the last eight games for Leeds and offers consistency in both attacking and defending that Bielsa doesn’t get from anyone else.
Liam Cooper made his return after injury when he came on for the last 14 minutes of the game on Saturday. We’d expect him to replace Gaetano Berardi on Saturday.
