Beren Cross shares why Tyler Roberts keeps getting game time at Leeds United
Marcelo Bielsa sees a lot of potential in Leeds United attacker Tyler Roberts, according to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross.
The Argentine was left visibly unhappy during the loss against Arsenal on Tuesday and decided to bring Joe Gelhardt on for Roberts.
However, that does not mean that he’s stopped rating him, as Cross believes Bielsa is playing him so that he continues to develop as a player.

In his Q&A, Cross said, “Roberts remains a divisive figure among fans, but Bielsa evidently likes him and plays him because he sees a lot of potential in the Wales international.
“The only way Roberts improves is by playing more and developing as a player on the pitch. That’s the way Bielsa will see it.
“Roberts received the ball in a promising position last night with Arsenal out of shape and rather than look to turn [Ainsley] Maitland-Niles, as he had the time to do, he waited and looked for contact from behind to go down.
“The referee waved play on and the hosts took the ball away. Bielsa was furious and barked immediately for Gelhardt to come on.”
How many chances?
Roberts has been tried and tested on numerous occasions and in multiple positions under Bielsa.
However, for whatever reasons, it’s just working out in the way he thought it would, but Bielsa is still persisting with him.

Even though the likes of Gelhardt, Crysencio Summerville and even Sam Greenwood are showing glimpses of their brilliance, Roberts appears to be the one he seems to trust more.
The Arsenal game could be the breaking point for Bielsa, but one can never tell with him.
Gelhardt, in our books, has done enough to start over Roberts and possibly lead the line with Rodrigo moving to midfield.
Once Patrick Bamford’s back, we’ll get a clearer idea of where everyone is in the hierarchy, but as of now, Roberts is doing more harm than good.
