Beren Cross: Leeds United new faces expected should star men depart Elland Road

Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha “will be replaced” should either of them depart Leeds United this summer, according to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross.

As revealed by The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday 14 June, the Whites are set to announce the signing of Bayern Munich midfielder Marc Roca, who joins Rasmus Kristensen and Brenden Aaronson in making the move to Yorkshire.

However, journalist Cross insists that Leeds’ early transfer swoops are not replacements for Phillips or Raphinha should they leave the club and suggests more signings will be made should they depart.

Writing for Leeds Live on Tuesday 14 June, Cross said: “Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen and Roca are not replacements for outgoing faces in this squad, they are additions.

“Should the likes of Raphinha or Kalvin Phillips move on from Elland Road this summer, they will be replaced by new faces.”

Good news

Regardless of the amount of early business Leeds manage to achieve in the coming months, all eyes will be on Phillips and Raphinha’s potential movements.

If either should depart Elland Road it is crucial that the Whites replace them with players of the same quality who will be able to make an impact immediately at Elland Road.

Now that is a lot easier said than done but ultimately Phillips and Raphinha are vital parts of Leeds’ current system and will be difficult to replace.

It is hard to begrudge either of them a move to a Champions League club.

Sadly, a professional footballer’s career is short and Leeds’ star men simply have to test themselves at the highest level.

However, there should be plenty of confidence that if the pair do depart Elland Road that Marsch will be able to quickly and adequately replace them.

His early business certainly displays that he doesn’t hesitate in the transfer market.

In other Leeds United news, the quest to seal another major signing takes fresh twist amid significant recent development.
