Beren Cross: Leeds likely to hand new deal to Robbie Gotts this summer
Leeds United are set for contract talks with midfielder Robbie Gotts this summer, according to Beren Cross.
It is suggested that the Whites will sit down for talks with the 21-year-old, who only has one year left on his remaining deal.
The Leeds Live journalist reported that a new deal is likely to be signed at Elland Road before he heads back out on another loan spell.
Writing for Leeds Live on Saturday morning, Cross reported that a new deal was likely on the table for the young maestro.
“Alfie McCalmont and Robbie Gotts made the leap last season with switches to the lower echelons of the EFL,” he wrote.
“The midfield dynamos are both 21 now and flying high after strong finishes to the season with Oldham Athletic and Salford City respectively.
“Gotts’s current contract expires in a little over 12 months’ time, so his immediate future will be assessed closely this summer. As with Edmondson last year, a new contract and a loan away seems the most likely avenue.”
Marcelo Bielsa has made it no secret that he is a big fan of Gotts during his time at Thorp Arch and Elland Road.
After admitting that he felt sorry that he could deliver the playing time the young midfielder needed, he made his debut in the FA Cup clash against Arsenal.
Not much followed that, and he was sent on two loans last season.
It appears as though he could be set for another temporary exit from Leeds next season, although it should be with a new contract and more years at Elland Road.
Playing time is at a minimum for these youngsters in West Yorkshire, and should another new face come through the door this summer, the list is growing longer.
Gotts will need to do something special soon, or he could find himself on the chopping block sooner rather than later, and what a shame that would be.
