Ben White told which PL club to sign for by former manager
Newport County manager Michael Flynn has urged Ben White to snub Leeds United’s attempts to sign him and try to join Liverpool this summer instead.
Flynn managed the 22-year-old centre-back during his loan spell at Newport in the 2017/17 season.
White has since spent a season on loan at Elland Road when he helped Marcelo Bielsa’s side secure promotion to the Premier League.
According to Sky Sports, Leeds have had two bids for White rejected by Brighton while the centre-back has also turned down two contract offers from the south coast club.
Liverpool have also been linked with White and Flynn would rather see his former defender head to Anfield than Elland Road this summer.
“I’d love to see him at Liverpool. I know Pep Lijnders, the assistant, he’s an unbelievable coach,” Flynn told talkSPORT.
“So I know he will help Ben improve. He’s got to do what’s best for Ben White. That could be getting a season in the Premier League with regular games at Brighton, which I think he could do.
“[Brighton boss] Graham Potter might want to keep him and bring him on and then sell him for more money after a year in the Premier League.
“That’s a decision for Ben, but for biased reasons, I’d be edging him towards Liverpool.”
It sounds like Flynn is a Liverpool fan, doesn’t it?
Because, surely, he would know that the best move for White’s career and development would be to head back to Leeds?
White played every Championship game for Leeds last season and based on Bielsa’s consistency in his team selection, he can be expected to play every Premier League game next season for the Whites if he signs and avoids injury or suspension.
White is a great young centre-back and, unfortunately, Brighton know that.
They are going to be tough to deal with this summer but Sky Sports’ claim that he’s rejected two contract offers shows that he isn’t the happiest of Larrys at the AMEX.
