Ben Jacobs: Leeds United move for Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards not advanced

Jesse Marsch is “still considering” a move for Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards, although a move to Leeds United is not advanced at present according to CBS journalist Ben Jacobs.

Premier League sides Southampton and Crystal Palace are said to also be considering a move for the United States international.

Jacobs suggested on Tuesday 12 July (via Twitter) that a number of Spanish clubs are also eyeing a move for the defender.

He also revealed there is “nothing beyond” Marsch’s initial interest in the 22-year-old

Defender needed

Another centre-back wouldn’t go a miss at Elland Road and especially one in the mould that Marsch would like.

Leeds conceded far too many goals last season and cannot afford to be leaky in defence next season.

Any successful team is built off a solid foundation and Marsch must not forget about ensuring Leeds’ defence is better than it was last season.

The American has primarily focussed on the midfield in the transfer window thus far.

Leeds have a good selection of centre-halves but ultimately, they were too unreliable at the back in the 2021/22 season.

The Whites’ array of attacking and midfield additions will mean very little if they can’t keep the ball out of their own net on a consistent basis in the 2022/23 Premier League season.

It also appears that Marsch is placing plenty of trust in what he knows, with yet another American international linked with a move to Elland Road.

It is very clear that Marsch is placing all his faith in his new additions to make an impact in the Premier League.
