Ben Foster gushes over Illan Meslier after 'massive saves' in Leeds United draw v Newcastle United

Ben Foster knows more than most about goalkeepers and he was mesmerised by Leeds United shot-stopper Illan Meslier against Newcastle United.

The Frenchman kept the Whites in the game for large parts as they held on to a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw at St James’ Park on New Year’s Eve (31 December).

The 22-year-old is among Foster’s favourite goalkeepers in the Premier League at the moment and he could not contain his delight having watched him produce a fantastic display between the sticks.

“On the face of it, it looks like a bit of a bore draw but if you actually look at the game, Newcastle popped Leeds off the park,” Foster said on his YouTube channel.

“Massive saves by Meslier. He made five or six real top-class saves, this is the perfect game for me, a dream. Two of my favourite Premier League goalkeepers making big saves all over the game.”

Superb

Things could look very different at Elland Road right now if Meslier wasn’t the man with the gloves and Jesse Marsch knows how much he has contributed this season and last.

Without some stellar performance in the run-in last campaign, they could be playing in the Championship right now and wouldn’t have made some of the signings they have as a result.

Foster won’t be the only former goalkeeper in love with what the youngster is doing at Thorp Arch right now and it would not be a surprise to see some of the biggest clubs in the world take an interest in him soon.

His age of just 22 will entice a lot of suitors in the summer, if not January, which gives Marsch and Leeds a predicament with no obvious option to replace him at the club if truth be told.

The Newcastle heroics are only the tip of the Meslier iceberg and the more he goes under the radar, the better.

In other Leeds United news, advanced talks are well underway to see this player make his way to LS11 as the first January incoming.
