BBC Sport share Jamie Vardy injury update ahead of Leeds v Leicester
Jamie Vardy is still managing a calf issue ahead of Leicester City’s trip to play Leeds United at Elland Road on Monday night, according to BBC Sport.
Vardy, 33, missed Leicester’s matches against Zorya Luhansk and Aston Villa with a calf injury but has since played twice – and scored twice – in wins over Arsenal and AEK Athens.
On Thursday night, the Foxes striker played 70 minutes in Greece as Leicester beat AEK 2-1 in the Europa League group stages but BBC Sport claims that he’s still “managing a calf issue” going into the game against Leeds.
It will be music to the ears of Leeds supporters if Vardy is unable to play against them on Monday.
The ex-England international is one of the most dangerous centre-forward in the Premier League and Leeds’ defence has been rocky at times since winning promotion to the top-flight.
Marcelo Bielsa’s had to overcome injury issues among his defensive players with Diego Llorente and Kalvin Phillips ruled out of Monday night’s game.
Luckily, Liam Cooper is back and available to play so we should see the Scotland international line up alongside Robin Koch at centre-back with Luke Ayling returning to the right-back slot and Stuart Dallas to left-back.
Pascal Struijk might start in the defensive midfield role while Phillips is injured and while we’re confident that the youngster is good enough to play in the Premier League, his job would be made a lot easier if he’s playing against a Leicester side that doesn’t have Vardy, or doesn’t have a fully fit Vardy.
Brendan Rodgers faces a selection dilemma on Monday with so many of his senior players injured so it’s likely that Vardy will be forced to play through the pain.
But we’re confident Bielsa will have a plan to deal with the goal machine.
In other Leeds United news, Michael Owen has made a bold prediction for Monday night’s match.
