BBC Sport pundit stunned by 'nasty' Crysencio Summerville moment in FA Cup clash v Cardiff
Danny Gabbidon has slammed Cardiff City defender Tom Sang for his “nasty” challenge on Crycensio Summerville in their FA Cup tie against Leeds United.
Sang hacked down the Dutch attacker in the first half with a cynical tackle which left the Leeds youngster needing treatment for several minutes.
Gabbidon was less than impressed with the “dangerous” challenge with Summerville being lucky to avoid a more serious injury.
“Summerville was away, Sang was caught on the wrong side. He gets a bit on the ball but he hacked through Summerville to get there,” said the BBC Sport pundit (Radio 5 Live, 14:09, 8 January).
“Those challenges can be quite dangerous. It was a nasty challenge.”
Summerville was very lucky to escape a serious injury, with Sang’s challenge being wreckless and out of control. It seemed to really impact the young attacker, who was very much on the periphery of proceedings after the tackle. It seems to always be the case in FA Cup ties where lower-ranked teams can sometimes produce some questionable tackles.
Jesse Marsch will just be pleased Summerville didn’t suffer a more serious setback. It was a flat performance from Leeds who were less than impressive in South Wales. A number of players were far from their best as their inconsistent form continues.
Premier League survival will be the main aim for Marsch and Leeds but winning is an excellent habit and at the moment the Whites have really struggled to raise the confidence levels among the fans. The next three Premier League fixtures against Aston Villa, Brentford and Nottingham Forest are starting to look season-defining for Marsch and the West Yorkshire side.
In other Leeds United news, the club is in advanced talks over another major signing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
