BBC Sport pundit rages over ‘out of control’ incident in Leeds United draw v Norwich City
Former Leeds United player Jon Newsome has branded Shane Duffy’s tackle on Crysencio Summerville as “out of control”, during the goalless draw with Norwich City.
Irishman Duffy was booked for the challenge early in the second half of the Championship play-off semi-final first leg at Carrow Road, scything through Summerville.
The two teams do battle again on Thursday at Elland Road after the tentative 0-0 draw in Norfolk.
Speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, Newsome said of the tackle: “That’s the kind of challenge I think football is trying to eradicate.
“Shane Duffy is completely out of control. That’s the kind of challenge that could have put Crysencio Summerville out of the game, and out of Thursday’s game.”
Leeds United can win for Wembley at Elland Road
After a team selection which confused some from Daniel Farke, Leeds United will take the goalless draw – and they will certainly take a fit Summerville who luckily was fine from Duffy’s strong tackle.
Leeds’ demons of the EFL play-offs have to be put to one side right now in the hope that they can extinguish them for good this season, and a win over the Canaries seals a place in the final against either West Bromwich Albion or Southampton.

A cagy game that both sides seemed scared not to lose, 90 minutes remain in such a finely poised tie, but Leeds fans will now be hoping they can finish the job with what will be an electric atmosphere in West Yorkshire this week.
Farke may be likely to bring Joel Piroe back into his starting XI and throw more caution to the wind in the second leg – and his former club will do everything to bring the demons right back.
In other Leeds news, Georginio Rutter has been criticised in a different position for his display against Norwich.
