BBC Sport journalist blown away by ‘top-class’ Illan Meslier moment in Leeds United v Leicester City

Leeds United ace Illan Meslier pulled off a “top-class’ save against Leicester City, according to BBC journalist Brent Pilnick.

Daniel Farke’s outfit won the Championship encounter 1-0 against the league leaders at the King Power Stadium on Friday (3 November).

The victory leaves the Whites with 28 points from their 15 matches, with the Foxes remaining in first place with 39 points.

“Joe Rodon did well to block Iheanacho’s late effort from inside the box before Meslier pulled off a top-class save in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Dewsbury-Hall’s back-post header looked destined for the top left corner,” Pilnick wrote for BBC Sport (3 November).

Huge moment

Meslier has not always been a fan favourite at Leeds, with the goalkeeper losing his place in the starting XI not so long ago.

But manager Farke has relied heavily on the young shot-stopper, and the player really hasn’t let him down. Meslier produced a stunning stop to deny Leicester ace Dewsbury-Hall a dramatic injury-time equaliser.

It was a key moment in the match, but it could also be a crucial moment in the season, with the victory putting a dent in Leicester’s superb start to the campaign.

The three points also maintain Leeds’ fine run of form of late as they continue to rise up the Championship table. Farke needs his players to produce big moments this season, and Meslier has just produced a massive one.

The West Yorkshire outfit can take so much confidence from this win, with the Whites sending a real statement to the rest of the league that they are not to be messed with under Farke.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are “extremely unlikely” to sign a player who “came close” to an Elland Road summer move.
