BBC receive complaints over ex-Leeds star celebrations
BBC Radio Leeds have received complaints from other radio stations for how loud Noel Whelan cheers when Leeds United score.
Whelan, 45, has been co-commentating on Leeds matches since the 2013/14 season and his trademark ‘get in’ celebration is one of the reasons why the former Whites star is so popular among supporters.
Leeds fans want to hear a passionate, Leeds-loving voice when they listen to matches on the radio – however, the same cannot be said about everyone.
In a post on his personal Twitter account, Whelan revealed that BBC Radio Leeds have told him to mute his celebrations because other radio stations have not been happy with his matchday etiquette.

We’ve been playing in the Premier League for a matter of weeks and the snobbery is already starting to show.
Other radio stations must be used to the quiet crowds and the unpassionate commentators bumbling through matches without any excitement.
Whelan’s never been like that, he’s always been brilliant to listen to and we hate that there have been complaints about a man’s passion inside a football stadium.
Maybe the fact that there are no fans in the stadiums at the moment has amplified Whelan’s voice even more but still, this just shows how plastic the Premier League really is.
If Patrick Bamford scores a last-minute winner against Manchester City this weekend, we hope that Whelan throws those plans out of the window and gives us the loudest ‘get in’ yet.
In other Leeds United news, Carlo Ancelotti has spoken out about Theo Walcott’s future amid links to Leeds.
