BBC pundit thrilled by Leeds United forward Crysencio Summerville v Liverpool

Garth Crooks has showered heaps of praise on Leeds United forward Crysencio Summerville who scored the winner against Liverpool last week.

The Whites finally returned to winning ways after beating the Reds 2-1 at Anfield on Saturday (29 October) in the Premier League where Summerville netted the winner.

Crooks has suggested that the victory was “never expected”, adding that Liverpool have not been the same team since the departure of Sadio Mane.

“Boy, did Leeds need these three points. No-one expected they would get them at Anfield but not only did they get them, they deserved them,” wrote Crooks in his column for BBC Sport.

“Crysencio Summerville certainty had the sort of impact Liverpool never expected. The 21-year-old Leeds midfielder could not have had a better birthday present than scoring the winning goal.

“Liverpool have dropped 19 points so far in the league already this season and the fact they only managed to lose 22 points in their entire campaign last season should tell us something.

“This team has played an awful lot of football over the last three years and the new boys have not had the impact some had expected, especially since the departure of Sadio Mane.”

What a finish

This could be a major turning point in the season for the Whites.

Prior to the game, Leeds failed to pick up a win since August. However, this victory will give them immense confidence going forward.

Despite Liverpool’s inconsistent form this season, they are usually unbeatable at Anfield. To get a win, and that too scoring late on will give immense belief to the side.

In the second half, Liverpool created a barrage of attacks at the Kop end, and it was a strong test of Leeds’ defence and resilience.

The Whites defended brilliantly and created a couple of great chances as well. Patrick Bamford should have killed the game but his terrible first touch let him down.

Just when it seemed that the game could be heading for a draw, Summerville produced a moment of brilliance to earn all three points for the visitors.

It’s important now that Leeds must maintain the momentum and start winning more games.
