BBC pundit raves about what ‘brilliant’ Patrick Bamford did in Leeds United v Preston, says he was ‘desperately unlucky’
Neil Redfearn raved about what Patrick Bamford did in the first half of the Leeds United game against Preston North End on Sunday (21 January).
Speaking on co-commentary for BBC Radio Leeds (via BBC Sport, 12:19pm), the pundit said it was “brilliant play” from the 30-year-old as he took advantage of some unconvincing defending from the Lilywhites.
He added that the English forward was “desperately unlucky” to not score after putting his man under pressure, with the ball just going out for a goal-kick before he could reach it.
“It’s just not convincing defending is it,” said Redfearn. “Brilliant play from Bamford. He’s put his man under pressure and Bamford is desperately unlucky. It’s a little bit feisty isn’t it.”
Bamford did not get on the scoresheet but goals from Dan James and Joel Piroe cancelled out Will Keane’s early opener at Elland Road to earn a much-needed 2-1 win.
Looking sharp
It was unfortunate that Bamford didn’t perhaps get what he deserved from the situation after he did extremely well to win the ball back initially.
But he ran out of room and just couldn’t quite get to the ball before it drifted agonisingly behind for a goal-kick to Preston, in what a major let-off for the visitors.
Daniel Farke will be delighted to see the forward looking so sharp to take advantage of the situation in the first place, something that can only bode well for his side moving forward.

The Englishman appears to have the bit between his teeth at the moment after working his way back into the reckoning for a starting spot in Elland Road.
A fit and firing Bamford could make all the difference for the Whites in the second half of the season as they look to achieve an immediate return back to the Premier League.
In other Leeds United news, Farke has shared the Whites’ stance on making a loan move permanent.
