BBC Match of the Day present gushes over Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier as footage emerges v Sunderland
Steve Wilson was blown away by the save Illan Meslier made in the first half of the Leeds United v Sunderland clash on 12 December.
Jenson Seelt hit the ball so well that he started celebrating, only to be denied by an incredible stop by the 23-year-old.
Sky Sports took to Twitter to share the footage of the Frenchman’s stop as Leeds lost the game 1-0.
Speaking on the EFL feed, Wilson, a BBC Match of the Day commentator, said (12 December, 20:32) “He was off and celebrating and Meslier clawed it away. What an unbelievable save from Meslier. There’s a wonderful stop. Magnificent.”
Worldie
Meslier has been criticised a lot at the start of 2023 and to say that he’s turned things around will be an understatement.
The Frenchman looks like a keeper reborn and is arguably the best in the Championship this season.
Not only have his reflexes and shot stopping improved, but he’s also become more assured with the ball at his feet and that’s a treat to the central defenders.

What’s helped him is that Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk have both formed a superb understanding at the heart of defence and Farke has not tinkered too much with that duo.
Meslier is now showing the kind of form he did when he was linked with a move to some of Europe’s biggest clubs not too long ago.
Hopefully, he continues to deliver at the same level for the rest of the season and gets Leeds back to the Premier League.
In other Leeds United news, a surgery diagnosis has been shared on a first-team player now set to be out of action for a number of weeks.
