BBC journalist shares what he’s been told all Championship clubs agree on after meeting today
Leeds United, West Brom, Nottingham Forest and all the other clubs in the Championship have all agreed that they want to complete the current season, according to BBC journalist Ian Dennis.
All 24 clubs met today (Tuesday) to discuss what they would like to see happen with the current Championship season amid talk of cancellation and a 22-team Premier League.
However it seems that Leeds and West Brom – the two club who would benefit from the 22-team idea – have agreed with the rest of the league that finishing the 2019/20 season is the course of action they want to take.
As Dennis points out, the next step would be to work out how this could happen because, as it stands, football is set to return on April 3 but it seems likely that date will change.
The coronavirus is spreading at a rapid rate across the country and many reports have suggested that the UK will not witness the peak of the disease until the summer.
It is basically going to be a case of waiting to see what happens because football cannot reconvene until it is safe to do so.
It is a sad and worrying time and football is often the escape from normal life that a lot of us rely on.
The country needs football at the moment and hopefully it won’t be too long before Leeds can continue their bid to reach the Premier League.
