BBC journalist details why Bielsa was shown yellow card in Leeds win v Boro
Marcelo Bielsa picked up his third yellow of the season on Wednesday night as Leeds United won 1-0 away at Middlesbrough.
The Whites manager is now one more booking away from receiving a one-match touchline ban, which would mean he may be forced to sit in the stands for a game before the end of the season.
Some Leeds fans were confused about why Bielsa was booked on Wednesday at the Riverside.
Although the Argentine arrived at Elland Road with the nickname ‘El Loco’, he has usually been quite calm and respectful when he’s been on the touchline in matches.
BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope shared why Bielsa was cautioned at Middlesbrough and it seems that his offence was for having too many coaches standing up in the technical area.
It seems to be an odd reason for a manager to be booked but he is the one who is responsible for his coaching staff and for whatever reason, that must be something that is in the rules of the game.
It does not really matter if Bielsa picks up a one-match ban between now and the end of the season. If anything, it will be interesting to see how the former Athletic Bilbao manager approaches something like that.
Maybe he would learn a lot from being sat higher up in a stand for one match or he will trust his coaching staff completely to get the job done in his absence.
Obviously we don’t want Bielsa to get any kind of ban but for someone who has such unconventional methods, it would be good to see how he’d adapt.
