BBC journalist details punishment FA are expected to hand Leeds after accepting charge

Leeds United have been charged by the FA for the celebrations on the pitch at Derby County last month, it has been confirmed.

The FA Spokesperson’s official Twitter account says that “it is alleged that the club failed to ensure its players and/or officials conducted themselves in an orderly fashion as pyrotechnic devices were used following the conclusion of the fixture.”

BBC Radio Leeds journalist Adam Pope has added on his personal Twitter account that Leeds have accepted the FA’s charge and that their punishment is expected to be a fine.

It remains to be seen how heavy that fine is but the fact that Leeds were celebrating a history promotion to the Premier League in a near-empty stadium suggests that it won’t be a massive one.

Still, as soon as we saw the scenes of players celebrating with smoke bombs after their win at Pride Park, we all knew that the FA were likely to do something about it.

We can accept that because, at the end of the day, no one was going to mute their celebrations for such a massive achievement.

There was no point in Leeds challenging the FA’s charge because there is no denying what happened on the pitch.

It would also leave a cloud over their heads for the coming weeks as they should really be focusing all their efforts on strengthening the squad and getting ready for life back in the Premier League.

No one needs any extra work at the moment so this potential fine is likely to be a small price to pay.
