Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso delivers Nadiem Amiri update as he turns down Leeds United transfer
Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso says that everyone at the club will work together as Nadiem Amiri turned down a move to Leeds United.
As reported and quoted by German media outlet Rheinische Post on Saturday (2 September, Page C6), an exit for the midfielder looked very likely but he turned down a move to Elland Road.
Despite being in the last year of his deal at the club, the 26-year-old stayed put in Germany.

Alonso said, “He’s staying with us. And if we know that he will stay, we all need to work together. We need him.”
Bullet dodged?
Amiri would’ve been a great signing for the Championship and would be among the best players in the second division.
However, he never gave the club the feeling that he really wanted to be there and even flew to Leeds just as a formality.
Having such players is never good as they do not give it their all throughout the course of the season.

He would be on high wages so would expect to play regularly and also has the capability of creating a toxic dressing room atmosphere if he does not get his way.
It remains to be seen if Daniel Farke is in charge and if Leeds do end up getting promoted, if they target him next summer as well.
However, given how this summer panned out, it looks extremely unlikely.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites tabled multiple enquiries to sign a multi-million international winger ahead of the transfer deadline.
