Barcelona only willing to pay £42m for Leeds United winger Raphinha

Barcelona are keen to sign Leeds United winger Raphinha, but there is a big stumbling block.

According to the Catalan based newspaper Sport (printed edition, 30 March – page 13), the La Liga giants are interested in signing the Brazilian but they can only pay up to £42 million for him.

They are only willing to offer an upfront payment of £33 million, while the rest of the money will be added as incentives.

If Leeds stay in the Premier League, Barcelona have no intention to enter into a bidding war, and this is the maximum they can offer.

Sport suggest that Barcelona want to see Raphinha joining them in the summer, but they fear that negotiating with the Yorkshire club would be difficult.

However, if Leeds suffer relegation, there’s no point in negotiation as Barcelona can sign him for £25 million.

No clause

The Catalan media are confident that the Brazilian has already agreed to personal terms [Sport] to join the La Liga club.

Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that there’s a £63.4million (€75million) buy-out clause in the Brazil international’s deal.

However, Victor Orta has made it clear (Mundo Deportivo) that the winger doesn’t have such a clause in his contract if he stays in the Premier League.

According to a recent report from 90 Min, Leeds are planning to offer Raphinha a new deal once they secure Premier League safety.

The Brazilian has shown no signs of agitation about leaving the club, rather he is reportedly focused on the task ahead.

While wild rumours are going around on a daily basis, we can safely say that it would be impossible for Barcelona to sign Raphinha if Leeds stay up.

In other Leeds United news, Victor Orta has slammed journalist Fabrizio Romano on Spanish radio over Raphinha and Barcelona.
