Barcelona offering £47.4m for Leeds United winger Raphinha

Barcelona have made a late bid for Leeds winger Raphinha in order to try and get his signing over the line, offering €55m (£47.4m) according to Sport.

The Whites have agreed a fee with Chelsea worth £55m + add-ons according to a report by Fabrizio Romano on June 28th, with the two parties now locked in talks over personal terms.

But while the London club are now the frontrunners to seal a deal, Barcelona aren’t giving up and have reportedly made a big offer to Leeds too.

Writing on their website on June 29 Sport say, “Barça negotiates his transfer with Leeds. The English club is asking for 65 million euros and Barça is offering 55. Its market value is 45 million. He will only come if Dembélé leaves.”

It seems unlikely that Leeds will agree to a lower amount when they have larger bids on the table, but the player’s will could come into play with Raphinha keen on a move to Spain.

Too little too late

If Barcelona had that type of cash available, then they should have made a bid a long while ago rather than stalling and trying to get a discount.

Leeds have been adamant throughout this entire saga that their price would have to be met, but that they wouldn’t stand in the way of a move for the Brazilian if that happened.

Barcelona were adamant the will of the player would be enough to secure a discount, but all it did was cost them time and now they look sure to miss out on the player they had identified as a top target.

If they can match the Chelsea bid then they will almost certainly be able to convince him to join them over the Londoners, but that seems highly unlikely now and they’ll need to find an alternative.

As for Raphinha, he gets his move to a Champions League side that will help him become a regular in the Brazil national squad ahead of the World Cup and Leeds get their money. Happy days.
