‘Banned’ – Phil Hay claims wife of Leeds player has stopped one part of star’s daily routine

Luke Ayling’s goal for Leeds United against Huddersfield in the game before lockdown was a thing of beauty.

It’s definitely a contender for goal of the season and just watching the clip again makes us excited for the restart.

It’s not just us though. In a brilliant interview, Atheltic journalist Phil has revealed that Ayling watches the goal every single day.

So much so, in fact, that his wife Poppy has banned him from watching it on the widescreen TV in their living room.

If you haven’t seen it, check out the videos below. The top one is from 24 hours before in training. The second at Elland Road. And they say lightning never strikes twice.

Writing in The Athletic Phil Hay said, “Every day without fail, Luke Ayling finds time to watch a replay of his goal against Huddersfield Town.

“He is so besotted with the March volley that a little while ago, his partner Poppy banned him from watching it on the widescreen in their living room.”

Ayling himself says, “My missus won’t let me have it on the big screen anymore. I have to use my phone. But yeah, I’ve watched it every day since.”

The goal was the best Ayling has scored but he was in a rare run of form ahead of lockdown.

He’s scored six goals in his Leeds career but four of them have come since December and he’s got three in his last five games.

He’s been almost faultless all season and has the highest average WhoScored rating in the entire Leeds squad.

His score of 7.31 is ahead of Kalvin Phillips (7.20) and Ben White (7.05) and he has to be a contender for player of the season.

Leeds fans will absolutely love the fact that he watches the goal every day and if it fires him up as much as it fires us up, we can expect fireworks from our right-back on Sunday.

We’re expecting him to start the game, alongside Ben White, Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas. Leeds haven’t conceded a goal in the last five games and another clean sheet on Sunday would be a huge boost towards promotion.

Hopefully, over the summer, Ayling will be watching a clip of him lifting the Championship trophy every day.
