Bafetimbi Gomis reacts to what he saw Dan James do live in Leeds United v Oxford

Bafetimbi Gomis was in attendance at Elland Road and praised former team-mate Dan James after scoring for Leeds United against Oxford.

The former Swansea City striker posted on his Instagram story (21 December), congratulating James using the clapping hands and red heart emojis after he slid in to score a ninth-minute opener in United’s 4-0 Championship win on Saturday.

Gomis had previously posted outside Elland Road – in attendance to visit former St. Etienne team-mate Josuha Guilavogui – but also praised James’ goal, with the two having trained together at Swansea City.

Dan James hitting new heights for Leeds United

James and Gomis’ time in the Swansea first-team didn’t quite overlap given the latter’s final season on the South Wales side’s books in 2016/17 saw him head out on loan to Marseille.

However, James’ 2014 arrival at the Swans’ academy came in the same year Gomis signed for the club from Lyon, and he’ll have watched the now-Leeds man grow during his three-year spell.

The promise and potential shown by James back then is fully hitting its straps now, with the Peacocks’ number seven netting his fifth goal of the Championship season against Oxford on Saturday.

Having been in and out of the side with injury issues early in the season, James is now a dead-cert on the right flank, with his pace and power making him one of the first names on Daniel Farke’s team sheet.

James is firmly on track to surpass the 13 league goals he scored last term, and it’s clear that the diminutive winger Gomis once knew has grown into arguably the best of the lot at Elland Road.
