‘Average’ Leeds United loanee Max Wober fails to impress media for Austria
Austrian media has reacted to the team’s 1-0 victory over Azerbaijan in Baku on 16 October, with Leeds United loanee Max Wober failing to impress with his display.
The defender played 90 minutes and shifted between left-back and centre-back, capable of playing both roles to a high level when called upon, but he performed better when in the middle.
The national media highlighted his physicality and aerial prowess, while he helped his team to a solid clean sheet and saw them earn a place at the European Championships in Germany next year.

Reacting to the result on 16 October, Austrian news outlet Salzburger Nachrichten commented on Wober’s performance, labelling him “average” and writing: “Better off in the centre of defence than on the left side. Used his header strength.”
Not living up to the high standards
Wober has earned plenty of praise this season after his loan move from Elland Road to German Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach, with his blood-and-thunder style and physicality earning him plaudits from the German media.
On international duty, however, he doesn’t seem to be getting the same credit. Despite keeping a clean sheet and helping his team qualify for the major tournament, the overall reception of not just Wober but the team is largely negative.

The defender competed in eight duels last night, winning four of them, while maintaining a passing accuracy of 86% and making two clearances, although he lost possession five times for his team, in what was overall a mixed display.
Wober has been singled out for praise by his loan club, and there have been discussions from the chiefs at the club about making his move a permanent one at the end of the season [Bild, 9 October], so his short stay at Elland Road may come to a final end soon.
In other Leeds United news, the club are preparing a new contract offer for one key man.
