Athletic journo - Leeds player 'confirmed' as late transfer target for English club
Leeds United left-back Barry Douglas has been “confirmed” as a transfer target for Watford, according to The Athletic journalist Adam Leventhal.
The Scottish defender was omitted from Marcelo Bielsa’s match day squad for the pulsating 1-1 draw against Manchester City on Saturday evening, and has yet to feature in the Premier League so far this season.
It is understood that the Hornets are eager to bring in a player in his position before the transfer window closes next week.
Writing about the 31-year-old on his personal Twitter account, Leventhal said: “Watford transfer update. Leeds left back Barry Douglas confirmed as target.
“Scot left out of 18 against Manchester City today.
“Vladimir Ivic keen to get new signing in position as soon as possible. Deal still to be finalised.”

The prospect of Douglas leaving will hardly come as a surprise to anybody.
All summer long, the left-back has been linked with a possible exit, with Celtic looking his most likely destination for some time now.
But this update feels as if it could have legs.
It’s become increasingly clear over the opening stages of this season that Douglas does not have a future at Elland Road, and even in the one chance he has been given to prove himself, he fell a little short.
The Scot drew widespread criticism for his display against Hull City last month, and there was nothing in that outing to suggest that he would be given another bite of the cherry in Yorkshire.
As disappointing as it may be for the player and his proponents at Elland Road, we would not be surprised in the slightest if Douglas made the switch to Vicarage Road between now and the end of the window.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have agreed a £70,000-a-week contract with this potential new signing.
