Aston Villa player sends ‘incredible’ message to Mateo Joseph at Leeds United

Mateo Joseph has impressed Aston Villa right-back Andres Garcia as the Leeds United forward is with Spain’s Under-21 during the international break.

The 21-year-old striker has had a breakout season at the Whites after being handed an opportunity to showcase his talent regularly.

Daniel Farke relied on Joseph a lot at the start of the campaign but the Spanish youngster has seen his minutes dwindle in recent months.

Joel Piroe has been the first-choice number nine at Elland Road, but Joseph has made a mark with Spain’s youngsters, scoring in their 2-2 draw with Czechia Under-21 on Friday (21 March).

Garcia has heaped praise on the centre-forward as he has have caught the eye despite playing in the Championship.

Speaking to Diario ABC (25 March), the Villa defender said: “There are second-division players like Mateo [Joseph] or the Sunderland lad [Mayenda]. They have a very high level; even though they’re in England’s second division, they are incredible.”

Farke hasn’t got best of Joseph at Elland Road

Joseph has struggled at Leeds this season, and his frustrations have been laid bare as he hasn’t started in the last 14 league matches.

Farke relied on the 21-year-old at the start of the campaign, but his lack of impact in the final third made the German manager change things around.

The Spain Under-21 international is playing second fiddle to Piroe at the West Yorkshire outfit, and the former Swansea star has justified his place in the starting lineup.

Farke is gunning for Premier League promotion at Leeds in the current campaign and will need to rely on his best players in the final stretch.

It wouldn’t be surprising to see Joseph warming the bench in the final eight fixtures of the Championship after being an unused substitute as the Whites dropped points against QPR in the 2-2 draw at Loftus Road on 15 March.

If and when Leeds get back into the Premier League, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Spanish youngster.

The 21-year-old has struggled for game time in the Championship and may look to leave next summer if things don’t change.
