Aston Villa need to make serious statement to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips
Aston Villa will need to make a serious statement to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips in the summer, claims Gregg Evans.
In his piece for The Athletic, collaborated with Mark Carey, Evans claimed that Villa strongly admire the England international.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, he issued a transfer claim for the 26-year-old in the coming summer transfer window.
He said, “Villa would need to make a serious, serious statement to try and get him in the summer.”
Steven Gerrard’s arrival has seen Aston Villa attracting the calibre of player they previously would not have dreamt of.
Signing Philippe Coutinho and potentially Lucas Digne sends a signal of intent to the rest of the Premier League.
They’ve also got a billionaire owner in Wes Edens, so investing big money in potentially world class players is not something that would pose a major challenge.
Phillips is expected to be hot property in the summer as he’s only got better since Leeds’ promotion.
However, the club would want to keep him at all costs and possibly build the team around him.
Whether or not Marcelo Bielsa is the manager next season, whoever replaces him would want Phillips at the club.
He’s proven to be effective in a number of positions, including centre-back and an advanced attacking midfielder.
It’s a no brainer that he’s a fan favourite given the fact that he’s a Yorkshire lad.
The supporters would hate to see him go and convincing him to stay could be one of Victor Orta’s biggest achievements at the club.
