Aston Villa may tempt Kalvin Phillips to leave Leeds United post Bielsa sack

Aston Villa remain long-term admirers of Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to Ashley Preece.

The Birmingham Mail journalist claims that Marcelo Bielsa’s unceremonious sacking makes a potential summer move all the more interesting.

He believes that there could be a big change at Villa Park in the summer as the club aim to reach the next level.

In his Q&A, Preece wrote, “Kalvin Phillips is an interesting one now off the back of Bielsa’s sacking. As we know, Villa have long been admirers of the England midfielder. I’m expecting a summer of big change, Gerrard’s already hinted at that.”

Keep him at all costs

Phillips is a full England international on the cusp of being a world class player.

If Leeds do not scale the Premier League table, there’s nobody that would blame him for wanting to leave.

However, the only clubs he leaves for are ones fighting for titles and playing in the Champions League.

Villa, despite their billionaire owner, do not have the pull to lure someone like Phillips over clubs like Manchester City, Chelsea or Liverpool.

However, even if they do make a bid, Leeds must try keeping him at all costs.

Losing Raphinha and Phillips in the same window would be devastating for the club, having already parted ways with Bielsa.

It would also send a message that Leeds are a selling club – something that the hierarchy would never want.
