'As if we're not depressed enough' – These Leeds fans react to Phil Hay Twitter player update
Phil Hay tweeted on Monday to let Leeds United fans know just how close they came to signing hitman Erling Haaland 18 months ago.
He said that the Dortmund goal machine was offered a lucrative deal with Leeds that would have put him in the upper echelons of the pay bracket at Elland Road.
Leeds were confident of doing the deal but were subsequently blown out of the water by Red Bull Salzburg.
Teamed up with @honigstein and @Worville to write about the rise of Dortmund goal machine and Leeds-born striker Erling Haaland.

It’s a real case of what might have been.
Leeds have been desperate to find a striker who can bag 20 goals a season. That hasn’t happened since Chris Wood left to go to Burnley.
Since then, Kemar Roofe has scored 14 goals in the 18/19 season and Patrick Bamford has 13 in the 19/20 season, which is currently suspended because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Haaland has way more than both of them put together this season alone, with 40 goals across all 19/20 competitions.
Leeds fans haven’t given up hope of still landing him one day but they’re frustrated at how close they came to a genuine world-class signing.
Here are the best reactions to Hay’s tease of a tweet…
