Arsenal keeper Ramsdale makes claim about Leeds United fans after crowd abuse

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale has mocked the behaviour of Leeds United fans on a fellow goalkeeper’s YouTube channel after abuse from supporters earlier this month.

On a clip posted to fellow ‘keeper Ben Foster’s YouTube channel, the 23-year-old hit back at the Leeds crowd after receiving abuse before the Whites’ 4-1 loss to Arsenal earlier this month.

Ramsdale spoke of a stadium announcement at the ground telling supporters to leave him alone whilst warming up before the match.

In the clip, part of Ben Foster’s Fozcast podcast, Ramsdale said: “We were in the warm-up and I’m getting a bit (of abuse). I’m just singing along to Christmas songs at this point.”

He went on to explain how a few fans made playful jibes before one supporter gave him slightly serious abuse.

Ramsdale went on to say an announcer asked fans to “stop abusing the Arsenal goalkeeper” causing an uproar amongst the Whites’ faithful.

He said: “One’s giving me dog’s abuse and I’m there laughing my head off. I’m at the end of my warm-up doing some kicking and laughing my head off.”

Ramsdale went on to say he riled up Leeds’ supporters as Arsenal went on to win 4-1.

A fine line

It’s no secret that there is a fine line between fans giving players light-hearted banter and full-blown abuse.

Ramsdale seemed to be unaware of whether the stadium announcement was meant to rile the fans up further or genuinely calm them down.

All-in-all, this appears to just be light-hearted from the Leeds supporters, or at least the vast majority. Every match of football is going to feature some unsavoury language amongst supporters and often targeted at players as fans’ passion manifests itself in a negative manner.

However, without further investigation, it’s impossible to know the full extent of this situation. It could be a simple case of Aaron Ramsdale making fun of the supporters to add some atmosphere to the game.

Leeds United fans are certainly passionate and that is bound to come out in a negative way on occasion. However, the passion and bravado of supporters will surely go a long way as Bielsa’s men look to move up the table in the second half of the season.
