Arsenal attempt to hijack Leeds United transfer pursuit of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie

Arsenal have reportedly made an enquiry into signing Juventus midfielder and Leeds United target Weston McKennie ahead of the transfer deadline.

According to Corriere Dello Sport [25 January], Leeds and the Gunners are the two remaining suitors in the race to sign the United States international who will be sold if £26.5million is offered up front with a similar amount then handed in bonuses.

However, it has been claimed that Arsenal are likelier to succeed than Leeds if they solidify their interest as they are in a position to win the Premier League.

Trouble?

Arsenal are challenging for the league and will certainly offer players Champions League football next season.

Even this term, they’re still in the Europa League and will give new signings the chance to compete in Europe as well as domestically for silverware.

They have been lucky with injuries but manager Mikel Arteta will be aware of the lack of depth in the middle of the park.

McKennie would solve that problem for them and a last-gasp hijack cannot be ruled out so the Whites need to be careful and get this deal done as soon as possible.

The longer the saga draws on, the tougher it will be for Leeds to get this signing over the line and they’ll know that as well as anyone as Arsenal are owned by billionaires and can finance this deal easier than the Whites.

Hopefully, Victor Orta moves quickly and he can be registered in the coming days without it being drawn on until transfer deadline day which can be very unpredictable.

In other Leeds United news, a journalist has shared if Leeds are set for a financial gain if Raphinha quits Barcelona in the January window amid links with Arsenal.
