Archie Gray sends three-word message to Leeds United goodbye post on social media

Leeds United teen sensation Archie Gray has paid tribute on social media to teammate Connor Roberts, following confirmation of his return to Burnley from loan.

Roberts’ Instagram post [28 May] gave thanks to the Leeds fans whilst also exhibiting his disappointment at Sunday’s agonising play-off final defeat to Southampton, condemning the Whites to another season in the Championship.

Gray has been a revelation at Elland Road this season, making 52 appearances, and gave credit to Roberts – who now returns to recently relegated Burnley with whom he earned automatic promotion last year.

“What a guy,” Gray responded – followed by a succession of heart emojis – to Roberts’ post, which read: “Football, ey… obviously so disappointed not to achieve what we all wanted, but honestly what a massive privilege it was to play just a handful of games and be involved at this incredible football club.

“An invaluable experience and something I’ll remember forever! Thanks for the spectacular support, ladies and gents!”

Leeds United must hold onto Archie Gray

Following a development last week which stated Gray would stay at Leeds United this summer, it’s important the club stick to their guns despite failing to win promotion.

Fees of up to £20m have been mooted as elite clubs in England and across Europe chase the 18-year-old, whose performances at midfield and right-back this season have contributed massively to his side reaching Wembley – making Gray one of the club’s most valuable assets in the process.

Leeds remain in a strong position despite missing out on the Premier League, with Gray having penned a contract until 2028 some months ago – and the youngster remains very settled at his club, where he has been since the age of eight.

It’s without doubt that Gray will go on to achieve an illustrious career should he stay fit, but Leeds know they will be able to keep the academy product on their books for another year or two without losing a great deal of value on his contract – and it’s likely he would agree an improved deal within the next 12-18 months if he is denied a lucrative transfer regardless.

In other Leeds United news, a decision appears to have been made on Daniel Farke’s future.
