Archie Gray now in difficult situation at Leeds United after recent development

Dean Jones has claimed that Leeds United gem Archie Gray is in a difficult situation after Glen Kamara looks to have made himself a regular starter under Daniel Farke.

The former Eurosport journalist claimed the 17-year-old will struggle to push Kamara out of the team, and despite being an exciting prospect at Elland Road, will need to make the most of the opportunities he gets.

Jones also suggested Leeds will benefit from Gray’s age as he won’t kick up a fuss about not being in the side and will just work to get back in Farke’s team if that chance presents itself.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on 19 October, he said: “Gray is an exciting one, but it will still be extremely difficult for him as an up-and-comer to push somebody like Kamara out of the starting lineup.

“Kamara was bought for particular reasons at Leeds, and I think he will be an excellent signing for them. But, one of the good things they can use to their benefit at Leeds is that Gray will not be throwing his toys out of the pram if he doesn’t get a start every week.

“As long as he can see opportunities in that team and make the most of them, I think everybody will be happy.”

A harsh assessment

After Gray’s hugely impressive start to the season, it’s a harsh view to suggest he will now have to feed off scraps. While the £5.5million arrival and form of Kamara may make it more difficult for him, the 17-year-old has played his way into Farke’s plans.

In Leeds’ last game against Bristol City, Gray played as an experimental right-back, moving into midfield in possession to provide more of an outlet playing out from the defence, and he performed brilliantly in the new role, proving his versatility to his boss.

Kamara will similarly need to prove himself to his boss, as a drop in performances could quickly see him rotated out of the side, with Gray waiting eagerly to step in.

It’s harsh to suggest his minutes will be limited after being handed so many opportunities already this season, and if can continue to put in regularly impressive displays, Daniel Farke will be hard-pushed to leave him out.
