Archie Gray floors Leeds United employee as Elland Road rookie tipped for the top
Ex-Leeds United defender Tony Dorigo believes midfielder Archie Gray is destined for the top.
Gray has burst onto the scene under Daniel Farke this season, perhaps quicker than most people would have expected.
Although he is still only 17 years old, he has become a regular for the Whites, starting 31 Championship matches as well as four of Leeds’ five domestic cup fixtures during the 2023/24 campaign.
Former Leeds star Dorigo, who played for England and helped the Whites clinch the First Division title in 1992, is now a pundit for LUTV and has detailed how impressed he has been by Gray while in conversation with iNews (8 March).
Dorigo said, “What we saw against Chelsea was all the elements of Archie’s game coming together and, goodness me, what a player he will be. Physically, he’s a great athlete but also technically outstanding.
“He reads the game so well and his decision-making – knowing what to do and when to do it – doesn’t normally happen for someone so young. But he’s only going to get better and really he could be anything.”
Just how good could Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray become?
To be exposed to this much senior football at the age of 17 really is incredible.
Not only is he featuring regularly, but he is featuring regularly for a team who are flying high in the Championship and in with a big chance of making a return to the Premier League.
If Leeds do bounce straight back to England’s top flight after relegation last season, Gray has already proven that he can handle a Premier League midfield battle.
His standout display at Stamford Bridge in Leeds’ 3-2 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Chelsea (28 February) demonstrated that he is ready for the big time.
Up against one of football’s most expensive midfield pairings in Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, it was Gray who looked like a £100million-plus player.

With the experience Gray is gaining, as long as he keeps his head down and continues to work hard there is no reason why he cannot fulfill Dorigo’s claims.
In other Leeds United news, one pundit believes promotion could force the Whites to make a transfer decision over one forward.
