Another sign Leeds 24-year-old is set to exit, loses squad number to new arrival – report
Leeds United have not handed Kamil Miazek a squad number for next season in a new sign that he is set to exit the club this summer.
According to LeedsLive, the 24-year-old goalkeeper had the number 30 shirt last season but new signing Joe Gelhardt has now taken that jersey.
Illan Meslier has held onto the number one shirt with Kiko Casilla retaining number 13 and Elia Caprile making the list with him getting number 25.
While the numbers themselves mean nothing, the fact that Miazek has lost his number and not been handed a new one suggests that he is set to be released by Leeds.
As well as this, the former Feyenoord player did not appear in footage of the squad returning to pre-season training last week.
The Polish goalkeeper’s contract expired at the end of last season and Leeds are yet to confirm whether or not he has left Elland Road.
But all this suggests that he has no future at the club, despite being named on the bench by Marcelo Bielsa on eight occasions after last season restarted in June.
Miazek seemed to replace Caprile as Bielsa’s third-choice goalkeeper and that showed that he might still have a future in West Yorkshire.
But Miazek failed to make an appearance and it means he could be on his way out of the club without ever playing a single game for the Whites.
Leeds have also brought in Dani van den Heuvel – a young Dutch goalkeeper who agreed to join the Whites after rejecting a new deal at Ajax.
Miazek is 24 now and it seems pointless offering him a new deal when Bielsa has plenty of depth in goals.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are interested in this £30million-rated striker.
