Announcement soon with Kalvin Phillips Leeds United exit edging closer – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester City are set to announce the signing of Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United, according to The Guardian’s Fabrizio Romano.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay reported [1 July] that a Phillips is set to undergo his medical ahead of his £42million move to the Etihad.

Italian kournalist Romano said via his personal Twitter account [1 July], that an announcement is imminent.

Romano said: “Manchester City have all paperwork ready for Kalvin Phillips deal with Leeds, medical already scheduled in order to announce the new signing soon.”

Long time coming

Leeds fans have known for a long time that Phillips will be departing the club this summer and that it was very much a case of when and not if he leaves.

Barring a major disaster, the 26-year-old will be wearing the sky blue of Manchester City in the 2022/23 season and it is very hard to begrudge the midfielder for wanting to test himself at the highest level possible.

Phillips has been an excellent servant for the Whites over a number of years and has earned the right to play for Manchester City under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.

The 26-year-old will go from strength to strength at City and could well go on to be one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe.

From a Leeds perspective, it is important that they reinvest the £42million transfer fee quickly and wisely.

Throwing the whole transfer fee at one player would probably be a bad move.

Instead, the Whites should be looking to invest in two or three players to replace England international.

Jesse Marsch and Victor Orta’s early transfer dealings should give fans plenty of hope that they can adequately replace Phillips this summer.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites now want to sign this striker with a rival set to kickstart a major £30million+ transfer battle
