Angus Kinnear delivers Leeds United January transfer window warning

Leeds United chief executive Angus Kinnear has addressed the transfer situation as the January window gets underway.

Investment is Leeds’ number one priority as their decimated squad has struggled to navigate the 2021/22 campaign.

With Marcelo Bielsa’s team finding themselves in the bottom five, January looks to be a key month in how the rest of the season unfolds.

“Naturally, supporters will be looking to the January transfer window for reasons to be optimistic,” Kinnear said in his programme ahead of the Whites clash with Burnley as per Leeds Live.

“Under the custodianship of Andrea Radrizzani and the 49ers, we have never failed to demonstrate our commitment to strengthen the squad in every window.

“However, we should not underestimate the challenge of securing targets who can meet Marcelo’s exacting standards and have the immediate impact that is required this season.”

Strategy

You only have to think back to Jean-Kevin Augustin to remember how badly things can go wrong when looking for impact players mid-way through the season.

Hopefully Leeds can learn from the past and work effectively throughout this window, as Andrea Radrizzani and co have done in previous windows.

Leeds mustn’t panic buy. The Whites have enough great quality players in their squad as they have shown during their time at the clubs.

Bielsa needs more depth as every team in England struggles for players and maybe one or two players who are capable of making an impact.

Leeds’ position in the Premier League and their desire to stay in it will leave them somewhat desperate in this window but they must avoid panic buying.

From a football and business perspective that will not help anyone. Bielsa has a clear identity in terms of the players he wants, and the Argentine will settle for nothing less.

Hopefully the Whites can successfully secure their key targets and turn things around in 2022.
