Andy Townsend tips Leeds United for ‘serious’ spending spree in summer
Andy Townsend has tipped Leeds United to spend a “serious amount of money” in the summer transfer window should they stay in the Premier League.
Jesse Marsch’s side currently sits 17th in the league – one point ahead of Burnley who benefits from having a game in hand.
The Whites squad has come under serious question this season as they flirt with the Championship down at the bottom of the table and the talkSPORT pundit believes they will try and plug the gaps with new signings.
Townsend told talkSPORT: “If Burnley survive, they’re not going to go crazy, they never do. They’ll probably go top of the Championship, maybe look at one or two of the teams in the Premier League where boys aren’t playing, that they might be able to find a slot for one or two just to thicken their squad up.
“I would think out of the two, Leeds and Everton, Leeds are a team to me that look like they’re going to have to spend a serious amount of money.”
Depleted.
Everyone knew at the start of the season that this Leeds squad was in need of desperate attention.
The drop off in levels between the starters and some of their replacements is shocking and on the occasions when they need to fill in – it is very noticeable.

Add to that the horrendous season the Whites have had with injuries and covid, it has been nothing shy of a nightmare.
Leeds fans would have never seen a campaign like this where virtually every single senior player has spent a chunk of time on the treatment table.
They have been without two of their best players in Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford for the entire season which is undoubtedly why Marsch’s side is down at the bottom.
Now when they are desperate for results, not only have their most in-form players who suffered injuries but key players such as Luke Ayling and Dan James have stupidly got themselves suspended.
The Whites face an immensely tough task but will undoubtedly fight until the end.
In other Leeds United news, talkSPORT pundit has made a damning relegation prediction whilst sharing a major problem for the Whites.
