Andy Goldstein shares new Kalvin Phillips Leeds United return verdict live on air
Andy Goldstein has mooted the possibility of Kalvin Phillips returning to Leeds United, suggesting the England international could “maybe” return to Elland Road at the end of the season.
Phillips left the Whites in the summer of 2022 but has since struggled to find a regular place in Pep Guardiola’s starting XI and he is now expected to depart the Etihad Stadium when the January transfer window opens.
It feels unlikely the 28-year-old would be willing to drop into the Championship to return to his former club, but Goldstein has suggested that exact move could happen in the summer, if Daniel Farke’s side are promoted to the Premier League.

Speaking on talkSPORT (13 December, 17:23) he said: “I’m sure Leeds would have him back, but I doubt if he would drop down.
“Although, maybe he would wait a season for Leeds to come back up.”
Could be possible
Depending on what Phillips thinks is the best move for his career, there is every chance he could once again play in Leeds United colours, but that would almost definitely require the Whites to find their way back into the Premier League this season.
The race for automatic promotion is on, but Farke’s side are currently outsiders for the top two places in the Championship, trailing second-placed Ipswich Town by 10 points and table toppers Leicester City by 11 after 21 games of the campaign.

With so many games left of the season, there is a very good chance that Leeds will manage to make up that ground and win automatic promotion to the Premier League. However, their focus will be directed to that race, rather than drawing up plans for the summer transfer window.
Should Farke’s side return to the top flight, Phillips would be an excellent addition as he has shown that he is more than capable of cutting it at the highest level. But there are far too many ifs, buts and maybes in play for supporters at Elland Road to get too excited.
