Andy Goldstein makes Leeds United joke after Marc Albrighton Ipswich Town prediction
Marc Albrighton’s prediction that Ipswich Town will claim automatic promotion to the Premier League over Leeds United this season led to a light-hearted quip from Andy Goldstein live on talkSPORT.
The Whites are one point above the Tractor Boys and four points behind Leicester City, though Kieran McKenna’s side do have a a game in hand over the other two.
Leicester are likely to claim the Championship title after their 5-0 win over Southampton, leaving Leeds and Ipswich to battle it out over the second automatic promotion spot.
Speaking live via talkSPORT on Thursday (25 April, 5:32pm), Albrighton said when asked who he thinks will go up with Leicester: “Ipswich. I genuinely believe Ipswich, and they deserve to be as well.
“They’ve been fantastic. With some of the late goals, their never-die attitude has just been incredible.”
That drew a wry reply from Goldstein, who replied, “Okay. Good luck with the Leeds fans.”
Marc Albrighton predicts Leeds United to drop into Championship playoffs
Goldstein is well aware of the abuse pundits can receive for their opinions on national radio and, as a current Leicester player, Albrighton might get a bit of backlash for his prediction.
The Whites are certainly not out of contention for the automatic promotion spots and points on the board are always better than games in hand.
The Tractor Boys’ form has dipped in recent weeks, losing 1-0 to Norwich City before consecutive draws with Watford and Middlesbrough, while Leeds took an important step with their 4-3 result against Boro.
McKenna’s side have remaining matches against Hull City, Coventry City and Huddersfield Town, and those are all very tough games considering the current Championship scenario.
Hull will be hoping to pip Norwich to a playoff spot while the Terriers are fighting for survival in the relegation zone. Leeds’ matches are not much easier, with QPR and Southampton clashes remaining.

Of course, the automatic spots are set to come right down to the wire, and only time will tell which team is going to sink into the dreaded playoffs.
However, after the victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Monday (22 April), Leeds very much have their future in their own hands.
In other Leeds news, a Premier League regular has been told to move to Elland Road as he would be “absolutely perfect” for Daniel Farke’s side.
