Andy Cole gushes over 'absolutely fantastic' Bamford after stunning season

Andy Cole was shocked that Leeds United forward didn’t make the most recent England squad after a fantastic season at Elland Road.

Bamford has 14 goals and six assists in 29 Premier League outings so far this season and there was talk of the forward making Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins was called up instead and former Manchester United forward Cole couldn’t hide his surprise.

“I’ll be honest, I was surprised,” Cole told TalkSPORT.

“We all know Bamford has been around for some time but this season at Leeds he’s been absolutely fantastic.

“Not just his work rate and how he closes people down but the goals he’s got. The way he creates chances for his teammates.

“He’s got nice movement. When you play for Leeds, the way Bielsa wants you to play as a centre forward, you’ve got to have decent movement.”

There is a lot to Bamford’s game as it isn’t just his goals that keeps him in the side.

Those six assists prove how important he is and really you just need to watch one of our games this season to see how Bamford makes us tick.

We were also surprised that Bamford wasn’t given an England nod, especially as Watkins was called up instead of him.

Bamford has more goals and assists than Watkins this season and is surely a better all-round striker.

Watkins scored on his England debut which won’t have helped Bamford’s chances of getting the call up to the Euros this summer.

At least Bamford will be fit when the Premier League returns next week.
