Andrew McLean: Four Leeds United players could follow Victor Orta to Chelsea

Daily Express journalist Andrew McLean has suggested four Leeds United players could follow Victor Orta to Chelsea should he take up the Sporting Director role.

The Guardian reported (20 September) that Orta is being considered for the role at Stamford Bridge as Todd Boehly continues his backroom revamp.

McLean has since speculated (21 September) that Illan Meslier, Brenden Aaronson, Joe Gelhardt and Jack Harrison could well be the players that Orta turns to if he did leave Elland Road.

All unlikely

The prospect of Orta leaving Elland Road for Chelsea is an unlikely one let alone four of Leeds’ best players following him to West London.

It’s important to remember that Boehly’s revolution at Stamford Bridge is going to cause plenty of speculation and rumours all over the Premier League, not just with Leeds and Orta.

The West London club also had Bayer Leverkusen chief Tim Steidten on their radar along with Orta which demonstrates the Spaniard is not their primary target at the moment.

Even if Orta did move to Chelsea, it would be hard to see how the club would sell the likes of Aaronson or Gelhardt, considering their age and the contracts they currently are on at Elland Road.

Leeds fans will be hoping Orta does stay put, particularly after the excellent work he completed over the summer with deals being signed and delivered efficiently.

His job at Elland Road is far from complete and jumping ship at the start of a new era at the club just wouldn’t make sense.

In other Leeds United news, a Sky Sports pundit has reacted to Gary Neville’s suggestion that the 49ers’ potential ownership at Leeds would be a problem.
