Andres Clavijo still on the scene at Leeds United despite uncertainty
Andres Clavijo is still at Leeds United despite Marcelo Bielsa recently using a different translator, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.
Since joining Leeds, the Argentinean manager has used a different translator every season with Salim Lamrani, Diego Flores and Clavijo aiding him through press conferences.
However, in a recent interview with Stadium Astro, Bielsa used a different translator whose identity isn’t the easiest to find out.
Despite this, ex-Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Hay reports that Clavijo still works at Leeds as he prepares for Bielsa’s first press conference of the new Premier League season on Thursday.
Least consistent part of Bielsa’s reign
Every Leeds fan knows that Bielsa is a fan of consistency.
He very rarely changes his starting line-up unless he’s forced to do so by injuries or suspension and he’s not really pushed through that many first-team signings in his three years at Elland Road.
He likes a tight-knit group that doesn’t experience much change.
However, one area that has consistently changed is who translates for Bielsa at press conferences.
Lamrani ended up leaving because his expertise was in translating Spanish to French while Flores left to take a break away from football.
Clavijo did a good job last season but he mixes that role with being a first-team analyst for the Argentine schemer, which is no doubt a massive role on its own.
Who is this new guy who was spotted with Bielsa recently? His appearance in that video clip sparked speculation on Twitter that he has replaced Clavijo.
Will he be at the Leeds manager’s side in press conferences from now on?
Or was Clavijo simply on holiday or too busy to translate for Bielsa in that one interview?
As Hay says, we’ll find out later on Thursday.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have made an approach to sign this English forward whose value is soaring.
