Andrea Radrizzani reacts to passionate anti-ESL speech by James Corden
Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has hailed celebrity James Corden after he blasted the idea of the European Super League on American television.
Corden shared his speech on The Late Late Show via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday as he explained to a US audience how the idea of the ESL could ruin the entire sport.
Leeds are clearly fully against the idea of the ESL based on their stance on Monday night as players wore shirts in protest ahead of the 1-1 draw with under-fire Liverpool.
After listening to Corden’s speech, Radrizzani took to his Twitter account to reply.
Leeds’ Italian owner simply said: “Well done, James.”
Huge approach by Corden
Now, Corden is someone who divides opinion.
However, whether you like him or not, there’s no denying that he’s hit the nail on the head with his speech and he also deserves massive praise for explaining this to an American audience.
We kind of look down on sport across the other side of the Atlantic due to the self-indulgence of it all. None of the major leagues, across all sports in the US, have the ability for teams to be promoted or relegated. It’s all money-driven, it’s all about franchises and it’s very different to how sport operates here in the UK and across the rest of Europe.
It needs to be explained to Americans that our sport clubs are totally unlike anything they have over there and Corden did that very well in his speech.
But what’s important about the fact it happened in America?
Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are American-owned and make up for half of the English clubs who are trying to form the European Super League.
Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol even reported that “several American owners don’t understand why we have relegation”.
American businessmen and American sports fans need to learn that what might be ok in North America, is not ok here in Europe.
We won’t stand for it either.
In other Leeds United news, this Yorkshire-born pundit has been waxing lyrical about a “fantastic” attacker who’s been linked with the Whites.
