Andrea Radrizzani reacts as Marcelo Bielsa signs new Leeds United
Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa has signed a new one-year extension at Elland Road, entering his fourth year at the club.
The Argentine joined the West Yorkshire club ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, but failed to lead them to promotion at the end of his first season.
That was achieved in grand style in 2020, with Leeds returning to the Premier League for the first time in 16 years.
Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani is delighted with the news and has taken to his personal Twitter account to share his reaction.
He wrote: “Glad we were finally able to share the official news with you! In reality it was just about finalising the paperwork.
“Marcelo has been as dedicated as ever all summer and we all support him 100%. Let’s go.”
Finally
We were all convinced Bielsa was going to stay beyond last season, but we all needed an official confirmation and are glad one finally came in.
His last deal was not announced until the eve of the 2020-21 campaign, so this late confirmation was expected too.
Having led Leeds to a ninth-placed finish last season, the Argentine will be keen to do more in 2021-22, with fans expecting a strong push for the European places.
Given that only fine margins stopped us from finishing in the top-seven last term, we definitely can push for it this term given the quality of players under Bielsa.
We have added Junior Firpo to the main squad, but it remains to be seen if further additions are expected.
Leeds really could do with another central midfielder and versatile attacker, though, and with some days still left in the summer transfer window, landing one or two signings should not be ruled out.
Bielsa is staying for another season, and we are hoping he stays for many more campaigns and continue his good work as we look to re-establish the club as a force to be reckoned with domestically and on the continent again.
