Andrea Radrizzani makes final call as Leeds United seal Georginio Rutter deal
Andrea Radrizzani made the final call and decided to move strongly for Georginio Rutter as Leeds United beat other clubs to secure his signature, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Guardian journalist wrote for Caughtoffisde that the Whites president took the final initiative to push ahead with the move as Leeds secured a club-record “£28m plus add-ons up to £40m” deal for the 20-year-old.
The player will undergo his medical shortly, possibly on Friday [13 January, Fabrizio Romano], and the deal will be made official soon.
“Georginio Rutter is in Leeds with his agent ahead of medical tests, with the deal to be made official soon. Leeds will pay a club-record £28m plus add-ons up to £40m,” wrote Romano.
“Leeds decided to go strong on Rutter deal because they consider him a top talent. Many clubs wanted him, but president Radrizzani decided to go strong on him. There were other Premier League and Bundesliga clubs also interested.”
Rutter will be a terrific signing for the club. He is an exciting young striker and the club have signed him on a long-term deal.
The youngster is not a prolific striker and his scoring records are not that enviable.
But he is a genuine talent. He can dribble past players and runs at defenders at a menacing pace.
There is an element of mystery around him, and Jesse Marsch can nurture him properly to make him a top-quality striker in years to come.
Radrizzani deserves a lot of praise here. The club showed ambition in the market and they are leaving no stone unturned to help Marsch turn the table around.
The club needed to sign a striker this month, and they have got it now. With Patrick Bamford back in the squad after nursing his injury, Leeds can now aim high.
It remains to be seen if Rutter’s arrival will pave the way for the departure of Joe Gelhardt on loan this month.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are keen on signing this Wolves player in January.
