Andrea Radrizzani £25m+ Leeds United move slammed by Sky Sports pundit as ‘sour taste’ left

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson believes Andrea Radrizzani’s attempt to leverage Elland Road in his bid to buy Sampdoria has left a “sour taste” as he edges closer to departing Leeds United.

The Whites confirmed on 9 June that an agreement had been reached with the 49ers with just the final details to be ironed out before Radrizzani’s departure is finalised.

The Athletic had reported on 1 June that the Italian had attempted to use Elland Road as collateral for a £26million bank loan need to purchase the soon-to-be Serie B side.

“We’re not privy to the ins and outs of the deal and what went on. It has certainly left a sour taste. The man brought some happy times for Leeds United,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“The Bielsa era, promotion to the Premier League but I think he’s left under a cloud. The ownership had to change and the takeover was going to happen.

“If what we are lead to believe is true and he leveraged Leeds United in the deal for Sampdoria. It doesn’t really sit right. It’s not the right way to do business.

“It’s a clever move for him but not against a fans and peoples club – it’s not a good way of doing things. It doesn’t sit well. He could have had a real legacy. He was very well-liked at one point.

“He’s tarnished his reputation and image amongst the fans. With the financial problems, Leeds have had over the years. You don’t ever want that club to be put at risk again.

“For an owner to feel that he was capable of putting the club at risk is disappointing.
