‘Already on the back foot’ – Sky Sports pundit makes Leeds-Bielsa prediction for Premier League

David Prutton has claimed that Leeds United will enter the Premier League “on the back foot” next season.

The Sky Sports pundit admitted that promoted teams generally start behind the sides that have been in the top-flight for numerous years.

Leeds ended their 16-year absence from the top-flight by cruising their way to the Championship title at their second time of asking under Marcelo Bielsa.

Prutton claimed that keeping Bielsa at Elland Road will give the Whites a fighting chance of succeeding upon their return.

“It’s just a joy to behold and if he is there with them in the Premier League then it gives them a fighting chance because any team that goes into the Premier League off promotion has to have a fighting chance,” he wrote in the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“Compared to the teams that are already in the Premier League Leeds are already on the back foot and that’s inherently what it’s like to be a promoted team.”

With Bielsa still in charge, there is no limit to how far Leeds could go after sealing their promotion to the Premier League.

Andrea Radrizzani admitted that discussions will begin over the South American’s future this week and that he was confident of extending his deal in West Yorkshire.

Leeds dominated the Championship, and this graphic from LUFCDATA proves that. If the Whites can manage similar numbers in the Premier League, the sky is the limit.
