Ally McCoist staggered at Leeds United news he’s seen – ‘Absolutely mental’

Leeds United are one win away from securing the Championship title, and they have done it in style.

Daniel Farke’s side have scored 93 goals in the Championship this season, and would hit 100 points if they beat Plymouth Argyle on the final day.

Leeds did hit a wobble in February, which put their promotion push in jeopardy, but have now secured their return to the top flight with games to spare.

Despite returning to the Premier League, Farke could yet be replaced as Leeds manager, and pundit Ally McCoist is now baffled at this latest development.

McCoist slams Farke sack rumours

With Farke’s future up in the air, Leeds have a tough decision to make as they aim to stay in the Premier League next season.

Some believe that a new coach would give Leeds the best chance of staying up in a tough league, but McCoist cannot believe that Farke being sacked is even under consideration.

Speaking on talkSPORT, McCoist expressed his disbelief that Farke would be sacked after such an outstanding season in the Championship.

“Incredibly, Daniel Farke’s future has been called into question. It’s mental, it’s absolutely mental,” he stated.

Leeds have big Farke decision to make

Leeds have a huge decision to make over Farke which will define how their return to the Premier League will go.

Farke was criticised when Leeds were in their slump, and a particular red flag was his insistence on sticking with underperforming goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

The German has also had unsuccessful spells in the Premier League with Norwich City despite impressing in the Championship, and Leeds may wonder whether his ceiling is the second division.

However, the job Farke has done this season is a good one, and sticking with continuity has its merits ahead of what will be a difficult campaign.

All three promoted sides have gone straight back down in the last two seasons, and Leeds will want to avoid being included in this new trend within the top two divisions.

If that means brutally sacking Farke and hiring a manager who can make them competitive in the top-flight, then there can be no room for sentiment over the 48-year-old.
