Ally McCoist shares Leeds United verdict after breaking Rangers takeover news

Leeds United are being looked at by plenty of Rangers supporters after the 49ers Enterprises principally agreed to a takeover deal at Ibrox.

The 49ers first put money into Leeds back in 2018, increasing their stake in 2021 before becoming 100 per cent owners of the West Yorkshire club in 2023.

Since then, the Whites have had two impressive campaigns at the top end of the Championship and despite missing out on promotion to the Premier League last season, look well on their way now.

Ally McCoist delivers 49ers verdict at Leeds United

Rangers are a club in crisis, and this season, they have completely crashed.

However, following the news that the 49ers are part of an agreed takeover at Ibrox with Andrew Cavenagh on 3 March, supporters will surely be feeling more relieved about the future.

It’s no surprise that supporters of the Scottish Premiership side are looking towards West Yorkshire as they ponder what the future could look like.

When asked about how the 49ers owning both clubs could affect Rangers, Ally McCoist was full of praise for what the owners have done at Elland Road and hoped for similar.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (4 March, 9:22am), the Gers legend said: “Leeds United to me look in a good place. They don’t look as though they just go bang, have that to spend and go over the top.

“If you can have the same kind of change Leeds have had in and around the team, I’d settle for that. Because Leeds to me look in a good place at this moment in time. They look as though they’re going to go back to the top flight.

“They look as though they’ve got good organisation behind them. Good manager, good players and if we can get that I’d be delighted.”

Leeds United are aspirational side under the 49ers

Supporters of other sides have always looked at Leeds United and appreciated the size and history of the club, but for too long, the Whites have not been at the level consistently expected of them.

However, not only are they in a great place sitting three points clear at the top of the Championship right now, but they have also achieved that in a sustainable way.

Leeds United this season.

Daniel Farke has been an excellent appointment and sticking by him after missing out on promotion last season has allowed a continuation of a project at Elland Road with a core squad sticking together.

If the Whites do achieve promotion to the Premier League, they will surely have to recruit new faces as they look to maintain their position in the top-flight.

However, there are also plenty of talented players in the squad who will no doubt be ready to take the step up too.

Rangers should certainly be looking forward to life under the 49ers, if their path is to look anything like Leeds’ has since being taken over.
